Arts in Kerala
Kerala is well known in the world for its own performing art form, the Kathakali. This is a form of dance formerly confined only to the festival stages in temples. This dance is noted for attractive make up, gestures and good body movements. Krishnattam is another form of dance drama, enacted in Guruvayoor Temple, depicting the frolics and divinity of Lord Krishna. In Chakkiarkoothu, the story is recited in a quasi-dramatic style with emphasis on eloquent declarations with appropriately suggestive facial expressions and hand gestures.
